A LEGO Master’s Journey with La Roche-Posay

Crafting imagination into reality. My collaboration with La Roche-Posay for the American Association of Pediatrics (AAP) conference transformed LEGO bricks into a monumental sculpture. It creates a bridge between professional realms and the uninhibited joy of childhood. This project was not just about assembling bricks. It was about capturing the essence of playfulness and creativity, the key to sparking interest and engagement among attendees.

The Concept

The Big Idea

La Roche-Posay envisioned a project that would dwarf attendees into a childlike state of wonder—building a kid’s sunscreen bottle from LEGO bricks on a massive scale. Set against the backdrop of the AAP conference in Washington DC, in October 2023, this concept aimed to remind healthcare professionals of the playful innocence at the heart of pediatric care.

Bringing Playfulness to Life

Infusing the project with elements of whimsy, like a sandcastle, a friendly crab, and a seagull perched atop the sunscreen bottle, I sought to draw attendees’ attention and immerse them in a sea of memories and imagination. These creative additions were pivotal in transforming the sculpture from a mere exhibit to an interactive beacon of nostalgia and joy.

The Execution

Challenges Along the Way

Time and Scale

The project’s ambitious scale was both its biggest allure and challenge. Crafting a six-foot-tall representation of La Roche-Posay’s sunscreen bottle demanded over 100 hours of building. Also 40 hours of meticulous planning and preparation. Employing a plethora of standard LEGO bricks and innovative techniques like SNOT, the endeavor tested my limits, offering a rewarding yet complex creative journey.

Transportation

Ensuring the sculpture’s safe delivery to the conference venue required constructing a seven-foot-tall custom crate. It is a logistical challenge crucial for the sculpture’s integrity and overall success.

Interactive Elements

Wearable LEGO Sunglasses

The wearable LEGO sunglasses created an immersive experience. They provided a unique, playful photo opportunity that allowed attendees to view the world through a lens of creativity, adding a personal touch to their conference experience.

The Mosaic

The interactive mosaic, where attendees contributed to the artwork by adding a blue LEGO brick to the La Roche-Posay logo, was a masterstroke in engagement, transforming passive observers into active participants.

Expanding the Experience

Benefits of Having an Interactive Booth in Conferences

Interactive booths, such as the one designed for La Roche-Posay, serve multiple benefits in a conference setting. They stand out in a sea of static displays, attracting more foot traffic through the promise of an engaging experience. Beyond drawing attention, interactive elements foster a deeper connection between the brand and the attendees. Engaging in a hands-on activity, like adding a brick to a mosaic, creates a memorable moment, anchoring the brand positively in the participant’s memory. Such experiences can significantly enhance brand recall and favorability, turning casual visitors into potential advocates and customers.

Why Using LEGO Sculpture is a Good Idea for Getting Attention at Events

LEGO sculptures offer a unique blend of nostalgia, creativity, and visual appeal, making them excellent tools for capturing event attention. Their innate ability to evoke childhood memories can bridge generational gaps, resonating with a wide audience. Additionally, the novelty of seeing everyday objects magnified and reimagined in LEGO bricks sparks curiosity and invites closer inspection. This combination of familiarity and innovation makes LEGO sculptures not just attractions but conversation starters, enhancing the social and interactive value of the booth.

Expanding LEGO-Themed Marketing Strategies

Companies looking to leverage the universal appeal of LEGO for marketing events can explore several innovative strategies beyond sculptures and mosaics:

LEGO Building Contests

Hosting a contest encourages participation and competition, creating a lively atmosphere that can draw crowds and media attention. The creations can be aligned with the company’s products or values, deepening brand engagement.

Customized LEGO Sets

Designing bespoke LEGO sets that reflect the company’s products or services can be an excellent giveaway or purchase incentive. These sets not only serve as unique mementos but also encourage interaction with the brand long after the event has concluded.

Interactive LEGO Murals

Installing a LEGO mural where attendees can create their designs or contribute to a collective piece fosters creativity and collaboration. It can serve as a dynamic backdrop, evolving throughout the event and providing a visual testament to attendee engagement.

Conclusion

The La Roche-Posay project at the AAP conference transcended the boundaries of traditional marketing, blending art, interaction, and nostalgia into a cohesive experience that resonated deeply with attendees. Through the monumental LEGO sculpture and its accompanying interactive elements, the project not only highlighted the creativity and versatility of LEGO as a medium but also demonstrated the power of engagement in transforming a corporate booth into a hub of imagination and play.
