Creating the Snowbot: My Journey Designing a Custom LEGO Experience for Zeta Global

When Zeta Global approached me with a unique challenge, I knew this project was going to push my creative boundaries in the best way. They wanted a custom LEGO kit for their Holiday LEGO Experience, a virtual event for their team. They’re calling it Snowbot. The kit had to reflect Zeta Global’s emphasis on modularity—a concept that resonates deeply with both their brand and the LEGO philosophy.

What came to life was the Snowbot, a whimsical fusion of a snowman and a robot, and one of my favorite custom creations to date.

Understanding Zeta Global’s Vision

Zeta Global is a marketing technology company that prides itself on adaptability and collaboration, qualities represented by its modular business model. When they explained how they wanted their LEGO kit to capture this theme, I immediately saw the connection between their work and the magic of LEGO. Both are about creating something bigger through interchangeable, adaptable pieces.

The challenge was to create something fun and festive while keeping the concept of modularity central. That’s how the idea of the Snowbot—a combination of a snowman and a robot—took shape.

Designing the Snowbot

Conceptualizing the Design

At first, I wrestled with how to combine two very different aesthetics: the organic, rounded look of a snowman and the sleek, mechanical design of a robot. I could have made a robot covered in snow, but that felt uninspired. Instead, I decided to make the Snowbot look like it was built from white metal, with a snowy appearance that fit the winter theme.

To keep it fun and approachable, I gave the Snowbot robot-like arms and legs but retained the classic snowman features—a rounded body and, of course, a carrot-like nose.

The Building Blocks

The Snowbot ended up being a 219-piece model. I used a lot of curved and rounded LEGO elements to create the smooth, manufactured look of its body while still evoking the feel of a snowman’s soft curves. These pieces brought a clean, polished look to the design, making the Snowbot feel futuristic yet festive.

It took me about 20 hours to design the Snowbot. From brainstorming the concept to refining the smallest details, I poured my heart into every step.

Bringing the Snowbot to Life

Shipping the Kits

Once the design was finalized, I spent another 20 hours assembling and packaging the kits. Each attendee of Zeta Global’s virtual event received their own Snowbot kit in the mail. I made sure every piece was accounted for and that the instructions were clear and easy to follow—building is supposed to be fun, after all!

The Event

During the Holiday LEGO Experience, attendees got to build their Snowbots together virtually. Seeing their excitement and hearing how much fun they had brought me a lot of joy. For me, it’s always rewarding to see people connect through something I’ve created.

Overcoming Challenges

This project came with its fair share of challenges.

  1. Balancing Two Styles: Merging the aesthetics of a snowman and a robot wasn’t easy. I spent hours fine-tuning the design to ensure that it didn’t favor one concept over the other.
  2. Emphasizing Modularity: LEGO is inherently modular, but I wanted to push this further to align with Zeta Global’s brand. The Snowbot was designed so its parts could be easily assembled, disassembled, and rearranged.

Why I Love Custom LEGO Projects

Every project I take on tells a unique story, and the Snowbot is no exception. It’s a perfect example of how LEGO can be used to create something meaningful, whether for a business, a team, or a brand. I love helping companies like Zeta Global find creative ways to connect with their people through LEGO-building experiences.
